We have a number of volunteer opportunities associated with this project, including opportunities for high school students, undergraduates, and graduate student liaison positions in both the field and lab.

In the field: Settlement brush sampling, collection, and maintenance is conducted every week throughout the year at the following locations: Santa Cruz Wharf, Capitola Wharf, Monterey Wharf, Stillwater Cove Pier. We are looking for volunteers near each of those locations to collect settlement brushes and prepare the samples for laboratory examination.

In the lab:Volunteers in the lab examine the samples collected from the settlement brushes and scan their contents for urchins under a stereo dissecting scope. We are looking for volunteers near each of the above locations to process samples in the laboratory.
